1. Prepare and Dampen the Surfaces

If you’re using Original Gorilla Glue for the first time, or bonding a new type of material, we always recommend trying a test piece first. To open a bottle larger than 2 ounces, cut the tip of the nozzle where it comes up to a point and starts to indent. The cap is attached to the side of the nozzle.

Prepare your surfaces: All surfaces must be clean, dust free and tight fitting. For shiny surfaces, such as metals, glass and some plastics, roughen up the material to give the a good surface to bond to.

Damp It: Lightly dampen one surface with water. We recommend using a damp cloth or spraying with water. Do not saturate the surface. For dense hardwoods, lightly dampen both surfaces prior to gluing.

2. Evenly Apply Gorilla Glue On the Dry Surface

Glue It: Carefully apply onto the dry surface. Do not over apply. We recommend wearing gloves or spreading the glue with a disposable
brush. In some instances, Gorilla Glue can be a skin sensitizer. If you are predisposed to skin reactions, please take the extra precaution.

If you do get the glue on your skin, try removing it with a dry cloth or paper towel first (particularly if the glue is still tacky). If that doesn’t work, try washing with soap and cold water, or using an exfoliator with a gritty texture. Dry your skin and apply lotion. We do not recommend using any kind of alcohol or acetone. This actually strips the skin of its natural oils, which means the glue is more likely to stick.

3. Clamp the Two Surfaces Together Tightly

Clamp It: Make sure the clamping pressure is distributed evenly across the surface. Or, if you don’t have a clamp, use heavy objects or Gorilla Tape® to achieve the appropriate clamping pressure. For lighter objects, try using rubber bands to hold the pieces together tightly. Clamp objects for 1-2 hours. For best results, allow 24 hours to harden.

4. Clean up

If you need to remove excess or uncured glue, we recommend wiping it with a dry cloth or using regular paint thinner. Be sure to read and follow the instructions for the thinner if one is used. Always wear gloves. When the glue is dry, it is best to remove it mechanically: try sanding, tuning, scraping, cutting or peeling off the remains. Dry glue does not damage the tool.

5. Storage Tips

After each use, dry the bottle's spout and lid thoroughly with a dry cloth. To extend the shelf life, we recommend pressing the air out of the bottle and putting the lid on tightly while keeping the bottle compressed. Keep the glue dry and cool - it prevents moisture in the bottle. You can expect a year's shelf life on unused glue.

In what temperature range can the glue be applied?

For best results, the adhesive should be applied at room temperature. Gorilla Glue should be kept out of the reach of children and

Can the curing time be reduced?

Gorilla Glue must sit in tension for 1-2 hours, after which the curing process is approx. 80% completed. After 24 hours, the glue has fully hardened. Please note that the curing time may vary depending on temperature, humidity and the porosity of the materials in question for gluing.

Is Gorilla Glue really 100% waterproof?

Yes. Gorilla Glue is 100% waterproof. It meets the requirements of ANSI/HPVA type I and II.

How do I extend the shelf life of Gorilla Glue?

Gorilla Glue is moisture-activated. When the glue comes into contact with moisture, it can begin to harden. To extend the shelf life of the glue, always wipe the lid and spout clean, and close the lid tightly.

My bottle of glue has developed a dry layer on top; can i still use it?

Any glue that is still in liquid form can be used and is reliable. If the dry layer is thin, use a pointed tool to poke through it and carefully pull it out through the lid. Do not put the bottle in the microwave or try to heat the bottle to soften the dry layer.

How do I clean up after Gorilla Glue?

Remove excess glue immediately, with a dry cloth or regular thinner. Do not drag the glue across the material; instead, wipe off the wet glue in small movements. Make sure to avoid skin contact. Hardened glue can be removed with a tuning iron, scraper or sandpaper.

What is the correct clamping time?

When using Gorilla Glue, the objects must sit in tension for 1-2 hours. For best results, leave the objects in tension overnight.

What if I don't have a clamping tool?

Gorilla Glue expands during curing. To ensure the strongest joint, it is necessary to tighten the items. There are many different ways to join the items together, but remember that the tighter the items are tensioned, the stronger the joining will be. Professional clamping tools are ideal, but if you don't have one available, you can use a heavy weight such as books, bricks, tiles, even Gorilla Tape is a good tool. The key is to ensure a tight joint line by applying an even distribution of pressure to the workpieces.

How much Gorilla Glue should I apply?

Apply a thin layer of glue. A little bit of glue goes a long way. As a general guide, use approx. 150 ml per m² surface. Watch out for it. glue that runs out when you apply pressure to the joint, or wet glue, especially on surface-treated items. If you have to remove wet glue, we recommend wiping with a dry cloth or regular thinner. Always remember that solvents should be used in well-ventilated conditions. Always wear gloves. When the glue has dried, it is best removed mechanically; try sanding, tuning, scraping, or filing. The dry glue will not damage your tool.

Why do I have to moisten the items before gluing with Gorilla Glue?

Gorilla Glue is moisture activated – moisture is the cause of the chemical reaction in polyurethane glue. Therefore, you need to moisten one of the surfaces lightly - then apply glue to the dry surface and press the items together. For hard woods, it is recommended to moisten both surfaces lightly before gluing.

Is it necessary to prepare the surfaces before gluing?

Make sure the surfaces are clean and fit together well. For smooth, glossy surfaces such as metal and plastic, the joining strength can be increased by sanding or otherwise abrading the surface. This gives Gorilla Glue a larger surface to stick to.
