1. Application

In order to achieve the best results, it is essential that the wooden surfaces are properly prepared before the glue is applied. When laminating, the surfaces must be level, and the surfaces must be free of scratches and marks from machines and processing.

Particular attention should be paid to avoiding holes and gaps in the wood. How much Gorilla Wood Glue to use depends on many factors. In general, one should apply copious amounts of glue to one of the surfaces. On woods that are difficult to glue, apply glue to both surfaces.

Rub the surfaces together to spread the glue evenly on both surfaces. Glue should be applied to such an extent that a little runs out along the edge of the items when they are clamped together. One liter of Gorilla Wood Glue should cover approximately 4½-5 square meters.

2. Tension

The tensioning technique and the type of tool that must be used for it depend on many factors: the type of assembly involved, the type of wood or timber used, the moisture content of the workpiece, the temperature of the room, assembly time and the quality of the surface.

In general, enough pressure should be applied to push out a small amount of glue along the edge of the glued surfaces. Clamping time (the amount of time the items must be kept clamped): 20-30 minutes at room temperature. The temperature must be above 13oC. Note that the clamping time is dependent on temperature, humidity and the porosity of the wood. Curing time (the amount of time it takes the glue to reach its full strength): 24 hours.

3. Cleaning

Cleaning wet glue: Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe off excess glue. Wipe as many times as necessary to remove all the glue. When the areas are dry, sand as needed. Wash hands, skin and cloths in warm soapy water and rinse afterwards.

Cleaning dry glue: Use a sharp putty knife, razor blade or similar to remove hardened glue from surfaces, and sand as needed. Wash your hands in warm soapy water and rinse afterwards.

Cleaning the bottle spout: Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe excess glue from the spout after capping. If the spout is blocked with dry glue, peel off the lid and push out the blockage with a toothpick or similar, and then rinse the lid with warm water. Gorilla Wood Glue can be removed from hands with warm soapy water.

Can Gorilla Wood Glue be removed from carpets and/or textiles?

When it is dry, it is very difficult to remove Gorilla Wood Glue. If the glue is still wet, it can be removed with water.

Can I separate a glued assembly?

Once hardened, it is almost impossible to separate a joint glued with Gorilla Wood Glue without damaging the surfaces.

Can Gorilla Wood Glue be used for steam bending and lamination?

Yes. The substrates must be steam bent and dried first to prevent subsequent displacement of the joint.

Can Gorilla Wood Glue be sprayed on?

Yes, but depending on the spray equipment, the viscosity of Gorilla Wood Glue may need to be lowered by mixing it with water. However, the dilution must not be higher than 5 mass percent water.

Can Gorilla Wood Glue be applied with a needle?

Yes. The viscosity of Gorilla Wood Glue allows it to be injected with a glue needle.

Please note that this answer applies to Gorilla Wood Glue, which is a water-based PVA glue. We do not recommend using the original Gorilla Glue in a syringe as it has a higher viscosity.

Can I change the viscosity of Gorilla Wood Glue?

Unlike the original Gorilla Glue, Gorilla Wood Glue is a water-based glue. Therefore, you can dilute Gorilla Wood Glue by adding water. However, the dilution must not be higher than 5 mass percent water.

Gorilla Glue foams up during curing. Does Gorilla Wood Glue foam up?

Gorilla Wood Glue is a water-based polyvinyl acetate (PVA) glue and does not foam during curing. Gorilla Glue, on the other hand, expands 3-4 times in relation to the amount you have applied.

Can Gorilla Wood Glue stick to painted or colored surfaces?

Gorilla Wood Glue can stick to colored surfaces, but not if the surface is sealed with a sealing paint or varnish.

Can heat be used to break the joint?

Gorilla Wood Glue is very heat-resistant. Once hardened, it can be heated up to 66°C.

Is Gorilla Wood Glue resistant to solvents?

When Gorilla Wood Glue is hardened, it is resistant to most solvents, e.g. paint thinners etc.

What does ANSI/HPVA type II water resistance mean?

ANSI/HPVA has established a number of criteria to determine the various levels of water resistance of plywood. Type I means that the joint is watertight. Type II means that the joint is water resistant.

Gorilla Wood Glue passes the ANSI/HPVA type II test, where original Gorilla Glue passes type I.

What makes Gorilla Wood Glue different from other wood glues on the market?
